Animals Asia is currently seeking to recruit a qualified candidate for the position of Manager- Local Communications with details as follows:
Position: Manager- Local Communications
Employment type: Full-time
Contract duration: One-year contract, extendable based on performance with initial 2-month probationary period
Work location: Ha Noi, Viet Nam (with occasional travel to programme locations)
Role Purpose
The Manager, Local Communications is responsible for delivering Vietnam-facing communications through strategic messaging, Vietnamese-language content, and media engagement, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and Vietnam’s political and regulatory context. This is an editorial and content-led role focused on accuracy, consistency, and reputational risk management. The role does not cover advocacy, fundraising, CSR, or outreach delivery, but ensures that all Vietnam-facing communications are strategically aligned, culturally appropriate, and politically safe.
Responsibilities:
Communications Plan & Advisory
- Monitor Vietnam media landscape to identify risks and opportunities
- Develop and implement local communications and content plans
- Advise the Country Director on messaging and reputational risks
- Coordinate with Global Communications to ensure alignment and effective delivery
Media Relations (Vietnam)
- Act as main contact for Vietnamese media enquiries
- Manage interviews, media responses, and press visits
- Build and maintain relationships with media and journalists
- Lead PR activities, media pitches, and event liaison
- Monitor media coverage and escalate risks when needed
Content & Editorial Management
- Lead development of Vietnamese-language content (press, web, social, articles)
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and cultural/political appropriateness
- Maintain a strong and consistent editorial voice
- Coordinate translations, editors, and content production
- Align content with Global Communications
Campaigns & Milestones (Communications Support)
- Support campaigns through messaging, content, and media coordination
- Develop campaign narratives and materials
- Support key announcements and organisational updates
Internal Coordination
- Work with programme teams to identify communication needs and risks
- Align with Global Communications while managing local priorities
- Provide internal guidance on Vietnam communications
Website & Digital Content Management
- Manage and update Vietnam website content
- Coordinate with Global Comms, IT, and vendors
- Ensure content is accurate, approved, and up to date
- Maintain Vietnamese content archives
Government & Regulatory Sensitivity
- Review content for political and regulatory risks
- Support leadership with messaging for official engagements
Content Production & Design Coordination
- Provide editorial oversight for all Vietnam-facing materials
- Translate communication needs into clear briefs
- Coordinate production of key materials (press, website, statements)
- Review outputs for accuracy, brand consistency, and risk
- Provide limited design support where needed
Requirements:
Skills & Abilities:
Strong writing and editorial skills with attention to detail, able to translate complex information into clear content. Proven ability in digital content planning, stakeholder engagement, and managing reputational risks.
Knowledge:
Good understanding of Vietnam’s media landscape, regulatory environment, and digital communication channels. Familiar with content strategy, brand management, and political sensitivities.
Experience:
Solid experience in communications, media, or editorial roles, including digital content, social media management, and working with Vietnamese media. Experience in strategic communications and complex environments is an advantage.
Languages:
Native Vietnamese and strong English (written and spoken).
Education:
Degree in Communications, Journalism, PR, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
