About this role
We are seeking a highly motivated technical specialist
The Energy Sector Specialist will to contribute to our energy security and decarbonisation pathways workstream. The role will support project delivery, business development and industry thought pieces across our energy portfolio in the Lower Mekong Basin and more broadly across Southeast Asia and Australia.
We are looking for someone that:
- Has early career experience in energy transition, decarbonisation and/or energy systems, with practical skills in one or more of the following areas: energy efficiency assessment, energy audits, GHG accounting and emissions inventory development, carbon audits, in at least one of the LMB countries (Vietnam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand).
- Has strong project management skills and appetite to work with and learn from senior technical experts in a range of fields.
- Has strong communication skills and can manage research projects remotely in English.
- Has experience with client relationship management, bonus if you have experience managing ODA funded projects.
- Is flexible, adaptative, driven and has aspirations to work with a high performing team.
- Shares our themes of culture, impact and value; and will reflect this in decision making and project delivery.
- Ho Chi Minh City is preferred location.
This role will report to the Senior Energy Systems Specialist and work closely with Alluvium Group’s Technical Lead, Regional Manager and Energy transition analyst.
What you will be doing in this role
- Support the Senior Energy Systems Specialist in developing technical input into projects and thought pieces.
- Lead research on power system planning, renewable integration, grid stability, and energy efficiency
- Manage research programs with sub-contractors across multiple countries
- Support the implementation of AMPERES’ energy strategy
- Support proposal development and business development efforts, including drafting technical sections, budgets, methodologies, and client engagement for donor-funded and commercial projects.
- Represent AMPERES with clients and sub-contractors.
- Collaborate with academic, government, and private sector partners 3 to ensure practical, innovative, and scalable solutions.
Skills and Experience
- Master’s degree in power systems engineering, electrical engineering, energy, renewable energy, mechanical/thermal/industrial engineering, environmental engineering/science, environmental or energy economics, quantitative economics, or a related field.
- Minimum 4 years of professional experience in renewable energy, power sector planning, or energy transition projects.
- Proven track record in providing technical advisory services, including quantitative modelling, simulation, and analytical assessment related to energy systems, energy efficiency, emissions reduction and/or decarbonisation.
- Experience using analytical and modelling tools such as Python, MATLAB and/or Excelbased models is desirable. Familiarity with GIS tools would be an advantage.
- Knowledge and experience in at least one, but preferably more, of the Lower Mekong countries (Vietnam, Thailand, Lao PDR, or Cambodia), including familiarity with their power sector regulatory framework, and energy market reforms; broader regional or international experience is an advantage.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multi-cultural environments and as a collaborative team player.
- Fluency in English is critical. You must be fluent in an LMB country language as well.
- Have the right to work in a LMB country.
