Through the International Climate Initiative (IKI), GIZ has been commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for the Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) with the project for Support to Viet Nam for the Implementation of the Paris Agreement II (VN – SIPA II). The lead executing agency is the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAE), further implementing partners are Ministry of Finance (MOF), Ministry of Construction (MOC) as well as the provinces of Quang Binh and Ha Tinh.
The project aims to support Viet Nam’s development pathway and its consistency with a just net-zero transition in line with the Paris Agreement, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development. The project works with MAE to address the Ministry’s specific capacity gaps regarding coordination mechanisms that continue to be a barrier to integrate climate and biodiversity considerations across key ministries and at provincial level. The agriculture sector is targeted in cooperation with MAE and selected provinces to boost capacity on Nature – based Solutions for Adaptation (NbSA). The project also serves as an interface for all projects in Viet Nam that are financed through IKI and promotes knowledge management and exchange, and the use of gender-responsive approaches in all instances and at all levels.
The project is looking for a professional to fulfill the following position of:
Junior Project Officer in Climate Change
Duty Station: Hanoi, Viet Nam
Contract duration: ASAP until 31 March 2028
Main responsibilities:
- Support the project team to prepare and implement project activities in the areas of climate change adapatation and mitigation and biodiversity conservation;
- Contribute to the IKI Interface function of the project by preparing articles for the IKI newsletter and events for IKI community in Viet Nam;
- Conduct data collection and analyses in support of development concept notes for activities and events;
- Support the preparation and implementation of the project’s activities in the area of climate policy, NDC and MRV;
- Contribute to the development of an e-learning course to operate the adaptation M&E system for the agriculture sector;
- Overall support for consultant contracting and management,trainings, workshops, partner meetings and other events;
- Undertake additional tasks assigned by the project manager to support the successful implementation of the VN – SIPA II project in the area of national climate policy.
Minimum Requirements:
- Master degree in environment, climate, agriculture, international relations or other related academic subject;
- Minimum 1 years’ professional experience;
- Initial expertise and interest in the project’s topics, especially related to climate change adaptation and mitigation/climate policy;
- Working experience in development cooperation and/ or in the Vietnamese public sector would be an advantage;
- Knowledge of the international climate negotiations and debate would be an advantage;
- Teamwork ability, dynamic, self-motivated character and interest in development work;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Vietnamese, with analytical capacities and ability to synthesise relevant findings;
- Excellent command of MS Office and good working knowledge of modern IT applications;
- Excellent self-management and coordination skills, interest in development work;
- Creativity, proactivity and proper initiative towards the results of the project;
- Excellent ability to share knowledge and experience, a good team player;
- Demonstrated ability to work and produce – sometimes under high pressure – high quality outputs.
