About our organization
The International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF, also known as the World Agroforestry) is an international research institution which generates science-based knowledge about the complex role that trees play in agricultural landscapes and rural livelihoods. As part of the Centre’s work to bring tree-based solutions to bear on poverty and environmental problems, researchers – working in close collaboration with partners – are developing new technologies, tools and policy recommendations for increased food security and ecosystem health.
The Centre’s headquarters is in Nairobi, Kenya, and research is conducted in 34 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. ICRAF is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and receives funding from over 50 different donors.

The Project
The Darwin Initiative Project, titled “Developing local capacities for the biodiversity–livelihood–climate nexus in Northern Vietnam” is funded by the UK Government under the Darwin Initiative. The project aims to strengthen inclusive, climate-resilient forest landscape governance and sustainable livelihoods through enhanced institutional capacity, meaningful community participation, and effective partnerships. A core focus of the project is to build long-term institutional and human capacities for biodiversity conservation, livelihood improvement, and climate resilience through a cascading training approach. This approach equips local partners with practical and experiential learning skills that can be applied in practice and further shared, with the Thai Nguyen Climate Learning Centre (CLC) serving as a key platform for applied learning and knowledge exchange.
Within this framework, the Institute of Forestry Research and Sustainable Development (IFS) under Thai Nguyen Agriculture and Forestry University and the Thai Nguyen Women’s Union (TNWU) play central roles in project implementation and community engagement. Strengthening the pedagogical and facilitation capacities of IFS and TNWU staff – particularly those involved in project delivery and Climate Learning Centre (CLC) operations – is essential to ensure effective knowledge transfer, meaningful community engagement, and the sustainability of project outcomes.
